LaVerne Williams
(1922 - 2018)
Inducted in 2023
Throughout her life LaVerne Williams worked to serve and support the city of Bisbee through political and community service. In 1988 she served on Bisbee’s Charter Commission and helped forge the document that allowed Bisbee to govern itself rather than being dependent on the state legislature. That same year she ran for city mayor under the new city charter and became the first woman elected to that position. She served three terms. LaVerne advanced the role of women as decision makers in city government and was an integral part of Bisbee community organizations. She worked tirelessly to promote and improve conditions for Bisbee’s children and adults alike.
