Inducted 2020

Jana Bommersbach was born in Fargo, North Dakota, and educated at the University of North Dakota and the University of Michigan.  She moved to Arizona in 1972 and was an acclaimed and respected journalist for decades.  Her body of work encompassed nearly every aspect of the profession:  reporter, editor, columnist, investigative reporter, TV newscaster, and author. In 1993, her debut book, The Trunk Murderess: Winnie Ruth Judd, was nominated for the prestigious Edgar Allan Poe Award from the Mystery Writers of America, recognizing it as one of the five outstanding non-fiction books published in the United States in 1992. She also received Arizona’s only literary prize for the book. Among her many awards is an Emmy for her Arizona Centennial special, "Outrageous Arizona," and four writing awards from her peers at the Arizona Press Club. Jana was an instrument of change throughout her career, always emphasizing fairness and honesty in her communication with others.  That fact is why she was known for her integrity—"moral journalism," as her colleagues called it.
